Diagnosis

  • Medical examination is required for diagnosing Pneumoconiosis or Mesothelioma.

 

Medical Surveillance Programme

  • Launched by the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board.
  • Provide free medical examination services for workers to take medical examinations in designated clinics.

 

Programme include:

  • Occupation and medical history questionnaire
  • General body check up
  • Chest X-ray
  • Pulmonary function test
  • Doctor consultation

 

Workers eligible for the programme

  • Hong Kong residents aged 30 years or above
  • Currently employed in the construction or renovation industry for at least 1 year

 

How to participate

  1. Download and complete the application form from the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board
  2. Submit the application form together with a copy of worker’s registration card by mail or email contact@pcfb.org.hk

Treatment

  • Pneumoconiosis is incurable.
  • No specific treatments or medications for it.
  • Current treatments for patients are aimed at limiting further damage to the lungs, reducing symptom severity and improving quality of life.
  • The doctor may prescribe medicines that are inhaled to reduce inflammation in the airways and to help keep the bronchial tubes open.
  • If the oxygen level in patient is below 90%, home oxygen therapy may be administered.
  • The doctor may recommend immunization with the influenza and pneumococcal vaccines.
  • If symptoms of respiratory infection are developed, antibiotics may be required.
